Youngstown American Rosie Movement

In 2022, Direction Home of Eastern Ohio honored four Rosies from the Mahoning Valley. These women are called “Rosies,” instead of Rosie the Riveters, because they did more than rivet airplanes for our troops during World War II. They worked in laboratories, welded ships, sewed clothing and parachutes, grew food for our troops, cut metal parts, inspected engine parts, worked for the FBI, kept records, and did much more. Each woman was interviewed and filmed to preserve their story. On Friday, September 30th, at Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, they were honored for their service to our country.
